10-Minute Table Runner (Leesa Kobi) This is a great beginner project. Learn some basic sewing skills as you piece together this table runner. While you might not get the first runner done in ten minutes you will once you discover how easy this is! Tuesday, August 10th, 6-8 p.m. Cost $15.
Super Simple Silk Screening©
(Enid Weichselbaum) This is the easiest introduction to silk screening you will find. We will review the principles of silk screening, make small reusable silk screens and print your own designs on your fabric. You will be able to take home your screens and reuse them with other designs. If time permits, you will learn a second silk screening technique. Come prepared to make a little (just a little) mess! Tuesday, August 17th, 1-4 or 6-9. Cost $40.
Paper Pieced Pine Trees
(Sandy Evans) Paper piecing is done by sewing directly onto a paper or fabric foundation. This method is very accurate and there are hundreds of patterns that can be made with this technique. We will only make the tree blocks in class. At home you can make them into a little wall hanging. Pattern by MH Designs. Wednesday, August 18th, 1-4 or 6-9. Cost $20.
Needle Punch with Shawn Williams.
Shawn is the designer and pattern maker for Threads that Bind. She will be visiting in Minnesota later in August and has promised to come and teach a class. Let us know you are interested and we will call you as soon as the date is announced!
Red Work by Machine

(Sandy Evans) When I show people this little quilt I have to explain that I did it by machine and not by hand! This can be done on any machine with a stretch stitch. Stitching and quilting will be done all at the same time. We will be working with our new Spagetti Threads or Sulky 12 wt cotton threads. (Binding and piping will be shown in other classes.) Monday, August 23rd, 1-3 or 6-8 p.m. Cost $20.
Class Reunion
This is an opportunity for all of you who have taken a class from us to finish your projects and show them off! Come for fun, fellowship, and door prizes! Please pre-register. Everyone is welcome to come. Those bringing a finished project or finished quilt top may attend for free! (Everyone else, $10). The reunion is on Tuesday, August 24th, 1-3 or 6-8. If you need some help getting your projects finished, give us a call. We are here for you!
What’s New with Pfaff!
Sandy and Sandy are back from Pfaff convention and we would love to show you what’s new! We will give you an over-view of the different features on the Pfaff machines, a taste of how the software works, show you the new feet and other accessories. There’ll be a free gift for all who attend and special prices, too! Thursday, September 9th, 1-3 or 6-8. No charge, but please pre-register.
New Block of the Month, Tonga Nature

(Ann Meyer) Learn several different quilting techniques as you piece together these blocks. This group meets once a month (usually the first Saturday of the month and the Friday that precedes it. Complete list of dates are available upon registration. Each month you will be given the fabric to make the block provided you come to class each month and bring your block finished. Cost is $5 plus you must purchase the pattern from us. The blocks will make approximately a 36” x 48” wall hanging. A finishing kit will be available if you would like to make those blocks into a quilt like the one shown here. Class meets at 10 a.m. Choose to come to either the Friday or the Saturday sessions. First class meets Friday, Sept 10th or Saturday, September 11th.
Pfaff Embroidery Club
(Sandy Dumstorff & Sandy Evans) Members meet to share projects and ideas and to learn new embroidery techniques. This meeting is followed with 5-D Embroidery Software training led by Chris Blade. Each month you’ll receive a handout with hands on instruction to help you learn more about your software. Cost is $60 for 6 months with a $5 credit given for those who bring and share their embroidery with us! Club meets the third Wednesday of each month, starting Sept. 15th at 6:00 p.m.
Beginning Quilting

(Ann Meyer) Learn the basics of quilting from the very start. First session we will discuss the correct tools and how to “read” a quilting pattern, and start cutting. The last two sessions you will need to bring your machine and we will sew in class. The project is a rail fence wall hanging or lap quilt. The supply list will be given at the first session. Students will receive a class discount on all supplies. The class meets for 4 sessions, starting Monday, Sept. 20, 27, October 4, and 11, 1-3 or 6-8. Cost $50 includes the workbook.
Pfaff Master the Basics #1
(Staff ) Learn about the accessories that are on your new machine, what the different feet are for, how to wind a bobbin, button holes, a blind hem and how to maintain and care for your new machine. This class is free with the purchase of a Pfaff sewing machine. Tuesday, Sept 21, 1-3 or 6-8 p.m You must pre-register to take this class.
Pfaff Master the Basics #2 (Staff) Learn how to gather, satin stitch appliqué, heirloom stitch with a wing needle, twin needle, free-motion sewing/quilting. Wednesday, Sept 29th, 1-3 or 6-8 p.m You must pre-register to take this class.
Quilt your Quilt

(Pat Drehobl) The object of this group is to get quilters back to quilting their own quilts. Pat is an expert
quilter on her home sewing machine as well as her long-arm machine. With her expertise you will learn about the tools and the techniques to use that will help you do a better job of quilting. We'll talk about what designs might look good, how
to baste, what threads to use, etc. Bring your quilt top to the gathering and everyone will receive help in deciding how and where to quilt. Cost is $60 for six sessions. Group meets the Wednesday, Sept. 22nd, Oct. 6th, Oct. 20th, Nov. 3rd and Nov. 17th and Dec. 1st. 1-3 p.m. or 6-8 p.m.
Photo Transfer

(Earlene Wickre) Learn how easy it is to use inkjet fabric sheets to put photos into your quilts and fabric projects. This technique will not hurt your original photos. We'll talk about the fabrics, how to print, how to care for the fabrics afterwards and more. Thursday, Sept. 23rd, 1-3:30 or 6-8:30. Each student will go home with one 8 x 11 sheet with one or more pictures on it. Cost $20
Binding Sampler
(Sandy Evans) There are many ways to finish a quilt besides the traditional binding.
In class we will make a sampler of bindings,
including using one or two rows of piping, prairie points,
prairie points with binding and piping, curved binding with thick piping, one-sided binding with rickrack and scalloped edges, You will bring home at least 6 samples, more if time permits. Class meets two sessions, Tues., Oct. 5th and 19th, 1-4 or 6-9. $30.

One Block Wonder

(Betty Lacine) These quilts are unique and give the quilter a chance to be the artist. Learn which fabrics "work" best and how to cut and create the blocks. Then the fun begins as we can play with the blocks to design one large quilt or several small ones from our blocks. Class meets for two sessions, Saturday, Oct. 9th & Nov. 6th, 1-4. Cost $30.
And the Stockings Were Hung

(Amy Brass) These charming woolen stockings are appliquéd with felted wool. Wool appliqué gives a wonderful texture to any needlework project. You will learn how to prepare the pattern pieces, appliqué by hand and how to care for your project when it is finished. Tuesday, Oct 12th, 1-3:30 or 6-8:30. Cost $15. Kits will be available.
Grandifloria

(Sandy Dumstorff) Learn to appliqué using your embroidery machine. Learn to how to stabilize properly, how to trace the pattern and iron in the hoop. We’ll talk about colors and more. Class meets Monday, Oct. 18th and 25th, 6-9 p.m. Cost $30.
Twist and Turn Quilt

Make this little quilt quick and easy using the Lil' Twister template and 5" squares. It's so simple to make these little pinwheels. You'll want to make more! Saturday, Oct. 23rd, noon-4. Cost $25.
Appliqué by Machine
(Sandy Evans) Learn how to use fusible webbing, learn which stabilizers, needles and threads to use, and finally how to make a nice satin stitch or buttonhole stitch to make the perfect –Satin-Stitch or Buttonhole appliqué! We will also do a “Mock Appliqué” which has turned under edges and a stitch barely shows. Your friends will think you did it by hand, but in a fraction of the time! We’ll be using patterns from My Whimsical Garden. Tuesday, Oct. 26, 1-4 or 6-9 p.m. Cost $25.
Mini Retreat for Mini-Projects!
(Earlene Wickre) Come and sew a project or two (or as many as you can get done!) with tips and demos throughout the day. This is a perfect class for the beginning sewer or a chance to get Christmas gifts made. Free patterns provided for these projects unless otherwise noted. Please indicate which projects you would like to make when you register.
1) Pillowcase -learn how to sew a French seam and the "hot dog" turning method.
2) Practical Pouches -learn how to put in a zipper in this bag that can be made in three sizes and in different styles.
3) Baked Potato Bag -learn how quilt a sandwich and finish the bag so there are no raw edges.
4) 60-Degree Table Runner -learn how to layer fabrics for a mirror image. Pattern available for sale.
5) Table Napkins -learn how to do a mitered corner.
Class meets Friday, Oct 29th, 9-5 p.m. Cost $40. Includes lunch and afternoon snacks!
Snowmen on Parade

(Deb Armstrong) Everyone loves a snowman and this is no exception! Each month we’ll do a row of blocks. You will learn traditional piecing; do some unusual piecing, and a little appliqué. Deb will give you lots of tips on how to perfect your work. We will meet the third Tuesday of each month for 7 months starting Monday, Nov. 8th, 1-2 or 6-7 p.m. Cost $50. Purchase of pattern required.
Less than Traditional Quilt

(Pat Drehobl) Learn a new technique to that makes curves and melon shapes a snap to make. Class meets Friday, Nov. 12th, 9:30-4. Cost $30.
Duffle Bag

(Ann Meyer) This bag is wonderfull to hold makeup or shaving items, and it’s gret for traveling! Several size options are available. Class meets Monday, November 15th, 6-8. Cost $15.
Simple Grace

(Deb Armstrong) This is a new pattern by Kim Diehl made with both cotton and wool. This quilt is full of texture and multiple techniques from piecing to appliqué . This is a hands on class meets once a month for four sessions starting Tuesday, November 16th, 1-3 or 6-8. (Also meets Dec. 21, Jan.. 18 & Feb. 15th.) Cost $40.
Class Policies
1. You may register by phone, mail or in person. Class must be paid for at the time of registration. Cancellations more than one week before class will forfeit 10% of the class fee. If canceling less than one week before class there is no refund. You may send someone in your place. We want to give our teachers the courtesy of knowing one week in advance how many students to expect and prepare for. If we cancel the class there is a full refund.
2. Please pick up a supply list before coming to class. Patterns and supplies are extra unless it says so in the description. A student discount is given on all supplies needed for classes. We are happy to help you put together fabrics in colors to match your needs!
3. If the class requires you to bring a sewing machine, please come early to set up. We are glad to carry the machine in for you. Please make sure your machine is in working order.
4. Please do not bring children to classes unless it is a children's class!. Also refrain from wearing perfumes to class. Some of us have allergies!
5. Most quilting classes only cover piecing the tops. Take a finishing class to learn quilting and binding techniques.
6. This is Minnesota and sometimes it's hard to decide what the weather will do! If Stewartville or Rochester cancels school, our classes will be canceled (and re-scheduled) as well.
